brief

This was a new Participate product feature initiated to provide a space for organizations, schools and districts to encapsulate specific professional learning offerings by theme, or tied to a specific initiative. The product goal in designing this feature was to increase revenue by offering a valuable communication channel, as well as increasing user engagement and adoption.

Process

I conducted remote user interviews with 7 users that represented the paying customer that would be targeted in the feature. Synthesizing data patterns revealed user goals that informed agile design sprints — this involved wireframing and usability testing with both the paying customer and end user personas, identified in the research. In addition to this primary research, secondary competitive analysis was conducted. After several rounds of concept testing, with fidelity increasing each round, I presented the established user goals and design solutions to the development team so we could tackle any potential problems that could prevent us meeting our deadline.

In this design process, we were able to continue adding elements to the Participate UI component and interaction pattern library. I worked alongside the PM and developers to QA work as it was pushed to a staging environment. I also worked with the sales and marketing departments to provide research insights that they could build marketing personas off of, as a go-to market strategy emerged.

IMPACT

Working closely with sales on this feature has proven fruitful for generating leads, as team members were able to reach out with both sales collateral and strong visual prototypes.

We have defined metrics to capture our progress against product goals, stay tuned for updates on how we did…

I wanted to personally let you know how wonderful it’s been to work with Lauren Hanford. She did an exceptional job asking us about our needs and developing a community space that really demonstrated she heard us.
